What’s the Best Way to Analyze Makeup Colors?

Hi everyone!

I discovered the My Best Colors app last week, and it’s been such a great tool over the past few days! I was really excited to find that the app allows you to see your best makeup colors through the camera function. It’s been incredibly helpful when trying on makeup.

I’ve been wondering: what’s the best way to analyze a makeup swatch with the camera? I know the color can change once it’s applied to the skin. Should I swatch the product on my arm, on paper, or analyze it directly from the packaging? What’s the most accurate method?

Thanks so much for your help!

Great question — and we’re glad to hear you’re finding the app helpful!

The most accurate method is to apply the makeup to your skin, ideally on your inner arm, and then use the camera tool to scan it. This helps you see how the actual product appears against your natural skin tone — something you can’t get from packaging or paper alone.

Avoid the back of your hand if possible, since it often has more texture and uneven undertones. And always make sure you’re in good lighting (natural daylight is ideal) for the best results.
